After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, every Ukrainian’s life changed, split into two parts, so to speak – before and after. At the beginning of the war, a great many people got involved in helping Ukraine. Someone helped financially, someone provided accommodation and food for displaced people, someone joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army to protect the country from the invaders. We, for our part, decided to assist with knowledge and moral support the people who were forced to leave their homes. Since 24 February, we have been actively involved in helping Ukrainians who have crossed the Polish border, understanding that people who have been forced to leave their country are most in need of help in adapting to their new living conditions at the very beginning. We and other volunteers help at a given stage with learning the Polish language, finding a job and acquiring basic skills to function in the new society.  It should be noted that the vast majority of migrants from Ukraine are looking for opportunities to live independently and earn money. Without knowledge of the Polish language it is very difficult to communicate about renting a flat, and without understanding Polish legislation it is difficult to find official employment directly with an employer. Therefore, one of the main goals of our team’s work is to extend a helping hand to such people and assist them in taking their first independent steps. We want them not to fall down overwhelmed by the enormity of the information, but to be able to stand on their feet confidently, adapt and stop feeling like refugees at least a little bit. So that they have the strength to start leading a normal, good life and planning for the future. You can read about our activities on our social media, linked above.
